Fund the lab
Support independent AI research.
If my published research, open-source code, or educational explainers are useful to you, you can support that work here. I’m building a solo lab to investigate how agents can keep learning and retain useful skills.
Payments are processed by Stripe and received by Straight Media LLC. All amounts are in USD. Monthly support renews until canceled. Cancel before your next renewal using the link below.
Manage or cancel monthly support
Support does not purchase equity, investment returns, exclusive intellectual property, or a promised research outcome. No charitable tax deduction is offered. Payment terms & privacy.
What your support makes possible
The immediate aim is to raise a few thousand dollars for compute: training runs, comparisons against baselines, and evaluations on tasks held out from development.
General support can also fund research time and essential operating costs. My longer-term goal is a sustainable research budget of at least $200,000 per year. That is a funding goal, not money already raised.
I share research evidence, methods, and limitations on this website. A useful experiment can uncover a failure as well as an improvement; support funds the investigation.
Sponsor a research program
For larger contributions, compute credits, or a research grant, let’s discuss a suitable scope and budget. Sponsorship arrangements can include acknowledgment and concise progress reporting, while preserving independent findings and publication.
Discuss research sponsorshipEmail hello@clarkwhitehead.com. Any reporting requirements, restricted use of funds, or other sponsor benefits will be agreed separately.
For investors
The investment case
I’m also seeking investors to help build an independent AI research lab focused on continual learning.
If you’re interested in AI that improves through use, an agent that adapts to new tasks while retaining useful capabilities could reduce repeated retraining and adaptation costs. You would be backing a commercial hypothesis to test; the benefit has not been demonstrated.
What investment would help test
Investment would fund compute, focused experiments, and dedicated research capacity. Further funding could support a small team of around 3–4 researchers, as resources and evidence allow.
The aim is to test whether an agent can learn across tasks, retain earlier capabilities, and adapt efficiently. The evidence would guide the technical approach and whether a commercially useful product is viable.
What you would be backing
This is solo, exploratory research in San Francisco, CA. Current prototypes are early engineering work; reliable learning gains, retention across tasks, and a commercially useful product remain unproven.
If you’re interested in investing at this stage, let’s discuss the thesis, the experiments you would fund, and what evidence could justify the next step.
Discuss investingEmail hello@clarkwhitehead.com. Investment discussions are separate from the support payments above. Those payments do not purchase equity. No investment terms or equity checkout are offered on this page.
Payment terms & privacy
Payments support Clark Whitehead’s published research, code, and explainers and are received by Straight Media LLC. The work remains publicly accessible; payment does not unlock additional access, purchase a product, or guarantee future results. Funds may cover compute, research time, and operating costs.
One-time payments are charged once. Monthly payments are charged when you subscribe and renew each month at the selected amount until canceled. Cancel through the management link above before your next renewal; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period and does not automatically refund earlier payments.
For an accidental payment, refund request, or billing help, email hello@clarkwhitehead.com. Include the payment date and receipt reference, never your card number. Refund requests are reviewed individually; any rights required by law remain unaffected.
Stripe hosts checkout and collects the contact and payment information needed to process payments. Straight Media LLC can access transaction and billing records for accounting and support. This website does not collect card details. Supporter names are not published without consent, and payments do not subscribe you to a marketing list. See Stripe’s privacy policy.
The research hypothesis
Intelligence that keeps learning.
My hypothesis is that continual learning could be a path toward superintelligence: agents that learn while acting, retain useful skills and stay able to learn as the world changes. If those capabilities accumulate and transfer across tasks, experience could compound into increasingly general intelligence.
The research starts with survival in simulated worlds, with the aim of testing how agents can adapt and build lasting skills. The path to superintelligence remains a hypothesis to investigate.
